Now, Ambien is normally a safe and gentle sleeping medication. She told me that I would sleep well, not wake up groggy and would NOT sleep through labor. She was right. I slept well and didn't wake up groggy. But I didn't go into labor either. Then to make it really interesting, I had to experience a one-of-a-kind response to the drug. Here's how it happened.

I was 40 weeks along with my firstborn and a soon to be mother. I had a lot of pre-term problems and was ready to force this kid out if necessary.

Medication Use in Pregnancy. The following medications may be taken safely during pregnancy. If a prescription Insomnia - Ambien rx, Tylenol PM, Benadryl.

Cough drops/lozenges/syrups (Cepacol, Herbal cough drops, Robitussen, Vicks, Halls).

Insomnia - Ambien rx, Tylenol PM, Benadryl.

Hemorrhoids - Preparation H, Anusol HC, Tucks, Hydrocortisone cream, Analpram rx.

Diarrhea (Pepto-Bismol, Kaopectate, Immodium-AD).

Depression - Prozac rx, Zoloft rx, Wellbutrin rx.

Acne medications (topical are allowed).

Diarrhea - Imodium, Kaopectate.

Cold/Sinuses - Tylenol Cold, Sudafed/Actifed, Airborne/Theraflu, Nasalcrom Rx, Dristan, Breathe Right Strips, Entex Rx, Flonase/Nasonex Rx.

Yeast medications (Monistat, Gyne-Lotrimin, Femstat, Terazol, Diflucan).

Pain medications (Codeine, Vicodin, Percocet, Motrin, Tylenol, Darvoet).

Laxatives (Ducolax, Milk of Magnesia).

The following medications have been taken during pregnancy and have not been shown to cause birth defects.
