This medication and others like it cause water weight gain in the feet, hands and especially the mid-section (belly) which only complicates the problem of pressure related to the stomach and esophogus. Not to mention the joint pain due to all of the excess fluid. Lethargy always accompanies drug use. We trade one disease for another unless the drug is a cure for the disease (which these medicines are not). Furthermore, once you stop taking it, the buringing is worse than ever before and so you almost become addicted to using it.

This water retention can appear to be weight gain. This side effect is mild and usually does not require medical attention. However, if the side effect is severe, consult with your doctor's. Since use of the medication is temporary, ice packs or anti-inflammatory medications might prove helpful in reducing this side effect, if it should occur.

There may be a connection between omeprazole and weight gain, but it is a very rare one if it does exist. Weight gain is a listed possible side effect of the treatment but is only reported by less than 1% of people taking the drug. Studies have looked into the effects of omeprazole, and found that people taking the drug were more likely to gain weight than those taking a placebo. Prescribed drugs do cause illness and bad effects in many ,and leave many. My weight gain was definay me and not the Omeprazole.

q Non-ulcer (Functional) Dyspepsia.

shape. I had to go out and buy new Xmas party dresses, nothing I had looked good on me :-(

You’re not alone, reach out to thousands of patients.

Thanks for all who did comment,as we live in(-continent) hope.

I was put on these for effects of voltarol. in the last 4/5 years my stomach started bloating and it was affecting ability to pee. I was sent for usual tests. And if anyone had these at urology they will know.

Ive started since new year, not on a stupid starvation diet, but a healthy diet, changed the way i eat, smaller portions and healthy foods etc, and ive lost 13lbs in a month! All 3 of the drugs i take are drugs that make you gain weight, but ive managed to lose it just by being healthy! Maybe you should all put down the3 big mack and cheese for a while?

q Scleroderma - Systemic Sclerosis.

I will post back if there is a change after a week without Omeprazole(please God there is).

Last week after another disappointing weigh in, I went cold turkey and stopped my tablets, continued to eat as per my new way, and I am 5 days in now without even the hint of reflux!! It makes me wonder instead of putting us on all these meds, why didnt my GP suggest a nutritionalist to control my GERD and a lifestyle change.
