⊘ Indications and dosages ➣ Insomnia.

• Hypersensitivity to drug.

Drug-behaviors. Alcohol use: increased CNS depression.

GI: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, dry mouth.

Drug-drug. Antihistamines, opioid analgesics, phenothiazines, sedative-hypnotics, tricyclic antidepressants: increased CNS depression.

• Monitor for physical and psychological drug dependence. Watch for drug hoarding. • Assess for adverse reactions, including confusion, ataxia, and amnesia.

Use cautiously in: • pulmonary disease, hepatic or severe renal impairment • history of psychiatric illness, suicide attempt, or substance abuse • elderly or debilitated patients • pregnant or breastfeeding patients • children (safety not established).

Drug information and side-effects for Edluar (zolpidem tartrate).

Study One This double-blind, parallel group, single-night trial enrolled 462 adult subjects experiencing transient insomnia during the first night in a sleep laboratory. The subjects received two doses of zolpidem tartrate oral tablets (7.5 and 10 mg) or placebo. Both zolpidem doses were superior to placebo on objective (polysomnographic) measures of sleep latency, sleep duration, and number of awakenings.

Effects on sleep stages In studies that measured the percentage of sleep time spent in each sleep stage, zolpidem tartrate has generally been shown to preserve sleep stages.
